Weed Farms Found – Toronto Sales Rep Jailed

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Some realtors feel that they simply chose a wrong career and start looking for other jobs. In many of the houses he rented, Phu Nhi Trac decided to do just this, and started an additional career. This was no regular gardening job, but the largest illegal marijuana operation in Canada.

With entry refused to her own house, a landlady took matters into her own hands and turned up at the rented house and blew the whistle on Trac’s illegal farms. Hoses leading to the basement which housed the weed business was the only thing she found in an otherwise empty home. The owner of the house expressed how perturbed she was to find the illegal farms in her property. I’m sure I would be distressed as well.

Police finally uncovered a chain of 54 businesses across GTA and took 27,550 plants worth about $30 millions. Mr Trac was a managing head of a tiny group (including another real estate agent), which used fake IDs to cheat more than fifty house owners during years 2000-2002. And he was a skillful manager ? he was well informed about the growing methods, studied the market prices and even tried to find franchises for his criminal enterprise.

Mr Trac, who’s real estate license with Living Realty until it was taken away last year, was sentenced to 14 years; with some terms to be served together it means he will have 5 years behind bars. The former property agent also was given a hefty fine of more than $1 million.

Trac won a stellar award for top producer of the branch office in the industrial commercial investment sector, according to the ex-president of Living Realty, Mr Eric Chan.

Picking a realtor to manage your house is not a decision that should be taken lightly, as this incident goes to show. Luckily, I can promise you that gardening is not a very common hobby of a Realtor in Toronto.
